Student Trustee

Looking for an opportunity to improve the student experience at ARU?

Thinking about how to make your cv stand out in the crowd?

Apply to become a Student Trustee!

What is a Student Trustee?

Our Student Trustees have the opportunity to sit on the Board of Trustees and get involved with making the decisions that will make a difference for our students, representing the grass root views of students. This unpaid, voluntary role will help you to gain experience as a director of a £2 million charitable organisation.

What’s in it for me?

The role is voluntary, so you will not be paid, although we will pay for any reasonable out of pocket expenses. But the experience and skills you will develop as a Student Trustee are invaluable! You will receive full training to support your development in the role and you will be supported to prepare for and attend Trustee Board meetings. Working closely with our Trustees, there will be opportunities for you to network with and be mentored by experts in HR, Finance, risk management and commercial services.

How much time do I need to commit?

You will need to be prepared to attend at least four meetings per year, each with a pre-meeting to support you. In addition, you’ll need to read the papers for each meeting, so that you are ready to ask questions and offer your views. If you also choose to represent the student body on a sub-committee, there will be additional meetings to add to your diary and prepare for.
